Wrestling Beginnings:
Roberts began wrestling in 1995 at Sacajawea Junior High. She
was the only girl on the team but her passion for the sport took
hold after the first day of practice. She continued wrestling
thru high school at Federal Way High School in Federal Way,
Washington. After high school, Roberts pursued her academics and
wrestling career at University of Minnesota, Morris, the first
college in the nation to offer women's wrestling. She went to
school and wrestled there till 2001. Roberts decided that she
wanted to be closer to home so decided to make the move from UMM
to Pacific University in Oregon after she found out that they
were offering Women's wrestling at the club level. After one
year in attendance at Pacific University in Oregon, Roberts took
5th at the National tournament in 2002. With the result of 5th
and the new women's residency program beginning started at the
Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Roberts was offered
a conditional stay in the new program. After getting serious
about her work ethic, nutrition and weight management, Roberts
emerged from the 2003 National Championships a Champion.
She made her first World Team and represented the United States
at the world Championships at Madison Square Gardens in New York
where she emerged with her first world bronze medal. With hard
work and dedication she was able to earn another national title
and world team spot on her second bronze medal at the World
Championships in Budapest, Hungry in 2005. |
